The latest comment on this pub:
excellent pub really friendley barstaff would reccomend to anybady who was into real ales !
No hot food on sale here.
I have recently been back in. It is great now that the others have left.
The offensive people have now left. It is now safe to go back in.
And then the same folk wonder why so many pubs are closing, in favour of buying drinks at the supermarket.
i went in the crown with a friend .asked the barmaid for 2 pints of lager .the landlord came from the other bar to ask very loudly who had ordered that crap instead of his wonderfu real ale . we suppes up and left .welcome to the crown .brian
Well it didn't get pub of the year. Did it? *laughs*
Yes, the website mentioned below looks a total mess too.
It looks highly arguable given what others have said.
Arguably the best pub in the north west, hence the many awards ( Stockport and South Manchester pub of the year 2008 and mild challenge champion pub two years consecutively) Hotly tipped for regional pub of the year. Upto 16 fine ales to choose from what more does one need
IMHO, I would say that this is a shitte pub. It is full of failed middleclass and people do not even speak unless you are a real ale twat.
I agree about the beer but also I understand the comment about the staff. A good pub needs more than good beer... I was happily working in the no smoking room when a few friends turned up. One of these chaps was seemingly acting up. I had nothing to do with these putative antics and pointed this out to a staff member, twenty minutes before I was asked to leave. In my experience, I found that the pub served exceptional beer but being asked to leave for the actions of someone else led me to avoid the pub since that day before the smoking ban. I am still angered by the situation and will not return to the pub unless I am given a reasonable explanation of this event.
The Crown Inn on Heaton Lane is now a very good real ale pub that has 16 cask ales and hosts live music every week.
I have abandoned this pub. One particular woman behind the bar has a tendency to ask people to leave, without reason. An excellent range of beers but spoiled by an offensive young woman.

One factor that many other pubguides do not consider is the area where a pub is based. This can be of the utmost importance. Therefore, we have taken the opportunity to interpret the latest Indices of Deprivation, issued in December 2007. As this public house is located in Heatons South ward, we inform you that an overall interpretation of the statistics for this area is that the ward appears to be acquiescent. This evaluation may be broken down as follows: The employment situation might be fairly good. Health is average. The educational stance is very affirmative. Moreover, the environment itself is average. Housing seems to be excellent. One might interpret the situation on reported crime as outstandingly bad. Meanwhile, income appears to be good. On another note, the postal area is exceptionally commercial.
